Step-by-Step: Update Your Voter Registration in Michigan

1. Update Your Michigan Driver’s License or State ID First

In Michigan, voter registration is tied directly to your driver’s license or state ID. This means you must update your name on your Michigan ID first before updating your voter registration.

You can do this at any Secretary of State branch office using your certified name change document.

2. Update Your Voter Registration Online (Fastest Method)

Once your ID is updated, head to the Michigan Voter Information Center:

Click “Update my voter registration” and follow the prompts to:

• Enter your name, birthdate, and driver’s license number
